Heiye ( Black Leaf ) is the first variety introduced in Taiwan, with a share of 95% in 1977, and a high share of 70% so far.

Yuhebao ( Jade Purse ) is an early-maturing variety, and it is easy to bid high prices because it enters the market early. The sweetest period of the Jade Purse is when the fruit turns from green to red, so pay special attention to the selection. The late-maturing variety that enters the market is Glutinous Rice , which are smaller than Jade Purse , and have a special aroma in the flesh. The yield is low but the price is high. Lychee is actually a short-lived fruit, but through excellent planting techniques, Taiwanese people can enjoy delicious lychees from April to August.

When picking, you should choose full fruit, the fruit color is bright red or dark red, and the fruit spine is flat; if you choose the Jade Purse , the fruit color is yellow, but the taste is best when the fruit shoulders turn red one-third. Choose Glutinous Rice for a long and thin appearance, with a relatively small core. When the appearance is bright red or even yellow, it means fully ripe, if it is dark red, it means over ripe.

You cut off the leaves of the lychees after buying them home , put them in a plastic bag and store them in the refrigerator for about 1 to 2 weeks.
